Jonesboro Education Trust (JET) is a civic engagement–driven youth investment initiative that helps children begin building savings, financial knowledge, and long-term opportunity pathways starting in kindergarten. Through community partnerships, financial literacy education, and positive civic participation, students earn education credits that grow over time to support college, workforce training, or entrepreneurship. JET teaches families how saving works, how money grows, and how consistent positive actions create real opportunity. When young people invest in their community, their community invests back in them.
JET rewards positive civic participation and financial responsibility. Students and families earn education credits through activities such as attending financial literacy workshops, participating in community cleanups, volunteering at city-sponsored events, making consistent savings deposits, and engaging in youth civic programs. Each verified activity generates sponsor-funded credits that are added to the student’s JET account, helping build long-term education and opportunity savings.
The JET Pilot Program will launch in the 2026–2027 school year with 25 kindergarten students from the City of Jonesboro. Each scholar will receive an initial seed deposit into an interest-bearing, deposit-only account held in the student’s name and administered by the JET Foundation. During the pilot year, students and families will participate in financial literacy workshops, civic engagement activities, and milestone recognition events while building the foundation for long-term opportunity savings. This pilot establishes the model that will expand to additional cohorts in future years.
JET operates through strong public-private partnerships where each partner plays a natural role. Banks help provide youth savings accounts and financial literacy support. Corporate and philanthropic sponsors fund education credits, scholarships, and program incentives. Schools help identify participating students and support family engagement. Together, partners help build aspirations, strengthen community pride, and create long-term opportunity pathways for Jonesboro’s youth.
